![]() That being said I've not seen his hostel films and am not a fan of that particular genre. Eli Roth is also known for his role as Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (2009). You don't need to know about all of them to figure out the type of movie they all make, as long as you know what Saw is like and about you'll get the type of film that they're all popular for. Directed by Eli Roth who gained fame after directing horror films Hostel (2005) and Hostel: Part II (2007), both films were so explicitly violent and bloody that he earned membership in a group of filmmakers dubbed the Splat Pack whose other members include the members responsible for the Saw franchise ( James Wan, Darren Lynn Bousman), Robert Rodriguez, Rob Zombie and Alexandre Aja. So Knock Knock a film that is reportedly an update of a 1977 film titled Death Game that basically had the same plot. What's a man who hasn't had sex in about a month to do? Especially if he's a nice guy. These two show up at his doorstep soaking wet and claiming they're lost. I think I would have had more fun watching Asterix and Obelix. Not that I trust IMDB all that much but still it had a higher rating that a film with a well known actor in the cast. But I was still torn between the two because when I looked at the ratings for the two films on IMDB the cartoon that came out last year had a higher rating. So I chose the film that many had yet to see for the purposes of my blog. Those that were would have probably seen the film by now. Secondly, on the day that I had preview passes to watch Knock Knock I also had passes to watch Astérix: Le domaine des dieux (Asterix and Obelix: Mansion of the Gods) (2014) but that film had been out a year and I doubt many would be looking for a review on it. Okay, so this review was supposed to have come out after Regression but before Pan because that's the order I watched it in but since Knock Knock had a limited release worldwide and had already played in some countries as early as June I figured it could wait and in fact in only opens in the US on the 9th which still gives me time to put in my two cents before it opens. I had two movies to pick from and I chose this one. Still, KNOCK KNOCK really did keep me entertained throughout the running time and I found it to be interesting and worth watching. This is Evan Webber, he used to be a DJ but then changed careers to become an architect. © Lionsgate As I said there are some logical issues that I had with some of the things that happen throughout the picture and at times you want to hit Evan over the head yourself for doing some foolish things. Most importantly is that all three have some good chemistry no matter what they're doing. ![]() Both Izzo and de Armas are good in their roles as they both play erotic very well and I thought they also managed to be believable in the more deadly nature. This includes playing that lovable father but he also handles the seduction scenes quite well and the various scenes where he is being tortured both physically and mentally. Reeves does a nice job in the role that requires quite a bit from him. The performances are for the most part good. Again, I'm not going to ruin the plan of these women but it's an interesting idea and I think the story is good enough to hold your attention throughout. I thought the director did a very good job at establishing the Evan character by showing him to be a good guy but of course even the best of people can make a mistake, which could change their life. ![]() On a technical level this is the best thing I've seen from Roth has he actually does a very good job in the directing department and there's no question that the film is well-made. Again, if you're wanting high art then this isn't going to be for you but for my money it was a nice erotic thriller that was at least entertaining throughout. I'm not going to spoil what happens throughout the movie but I thought the twists were rather good and for the most part we got some nice performances. Eli Roth is best known for his sadistic horror movies but he tries something different here and while the film is highly flawed I thought it was good enough for what it was trying to do. The next day Evan realizes his mistake and tries to get rid of the women but soon he realizes they have different plans. ![]() Both women are wet and cold so Evan invites them into his house to wait for a taxi but they soon seduce them into a threesome. Knock Knock (2015) *** (out of 4) Husband and father Evan Webber (Keanu Reeves) is home alone working during a storm when two ladies (Lorenza Izzo, Ana de Armas) knock on his door asking for directions. ![]()
