Should Pac-Man do this glitch and fall off after performing the aforementioned level completion via dying glitch, the game will freeze upon respawning him in the level he last played. If Pac-Man does fall off here, the regular death sound won't play, but Pac-Man will still lose a life, and will respawn inside the level he last played. For those unfamiliar with the 256 glitch, this was a level in Pac-Man that was unable to be completed due to a glitch that brought on the games kill screen. Normally, on Ghost Island, there is no way Pac-Man can die however, there is a specific corner of the brick wall in between the Factory area and the path to the Mansion area that if Pac-Man repeatedly runs into (achieved by repeatedly tapping the down button on the PS1 controller), there is a chance he may clip through it and enter out of bounds. However, the 2% given at the end of the game for beating Toc-Man will still be added to the save file, making this the only way a save file can show a 100% completion on it outside of the game's final family photo. This is because the game is not intended to take Pac-Man to the Weigh-In Machine after completing the level, and the game does not save after beating Toc-Man, instead going back to the previous save point if the player returns to Quest Mode, because of this the checkpoint is not programmed to turn yellow (which signifies the level has been completed) upon level completion. Ok, we have pushed a Beta branch out that contains hopefully the fix for this issue. If Pac-Man executes this glitch on Toc-Man's Lair, once he exits the Weigh-In Machine, the silver checkpoint that Pac-Man needs to touch to enter the level will disappear completely, rendering him unable to enter the level again on the current save file. The glitch is likely the result of the fact that if Pac-Man dies in the Bonus Round, he will be taken to the Weigh-In Machine if Pac-Man exits the Bonus Round, this fact will still be carried over to the next level he enters. Should Pac-Man collect all the P-A-C-M-A-N letters and make it to the Bonus Round, exit back to Ghost Island during that round, enter another level, and die at any point, he will be automatically taken to the Weigh-In Machine and the level will be completed. This glitch can be performed on any level with P-A-C-M-A-N letters, and is very simple to execute. No matter what the player does, the "Pac-dots collected" count will never be large enough, so the game cannot progress and ends here. This is a list of glitches found in Pac-Man World.Ĭomplete a Level Immediately After Dying This attempt to draw 256 fruit on the screen, overwriting many other items - such as the precious Pac-dots required to complete the level - whilst doing so, is the cause of this dramatic glitch. The title refers to the map 256 glitch of the original arcade game where upon reaching level 256 the right side of the screen turns into a mess of letters and numbers while the left side remains normal. The loop will dutifully draw fruit on the screen repeatedly until it has finished, by which time it will have drawn "level number + 1" fruit, which is fine when the level number is less than eight, but not when it is 255. The glitch is shown as a garble of code and moves at a consistent speed at the bottom of the screen or out of sight as Pac-Man attempts to outrun it. but subtracting anything from 0 will cause it to underflow to 255. The fruit-drawing loop will then proceed to draw a fruit, subtract from the counter, check if it's equal to 0.
